Stories from EQWIP HUBs Tanzania - Peter

by Andrew Inglis in Employment, 3 August 2017, 04:48 AM

Continuing in the vein of our previous story, focusing on Vialeth who produces clothing, we continue our series with Peter, who is a producer of alternative charcoal. Peter developed a method to use waste products such as garbage which is in ready supply, to develop charcoal for cooking purposes. We paid Peter’s workshop a visit on July 19, 2017 to learn more about Peter and see the process of developing artificial charcoal.

Peter is 34 years old and conducts his business surprisingly close to the Lakezone campus of IRDP where the HUB is based. Outside of his business, Peter enjoys playing football and exercising. When visiting Peter’s workshop, which sits right on the shores of Lake Victoria in a surprisingly picturesque and calming place, he told us how he loves the environment that he works in and how it is a motivating factor in his work. Peter wants to develop even more entrepreneurship skills than he learned from the EQWIP HUBs training which is commendable.
Peter credits EQWIP HUBs with the success of his business and teaching him how to manage his money and sell his product effectively. He also credits the training with focusing his life into his business; he spoke during our interview about how he used to be quite violent, but since focusing his energy into his business and EQWIP HUBs training, he has been a “good boy” as he described himself.

Peter strongly encourages all young people in Mwanza to join the EQWIP HUBs training. He believes that the training is helpful from a business perspective, but also for the personal growth of participants. Peter fondly remembers, how the teachers and volunteers in the HUB space were committed to the success of all participants without tire.

EQWIP HUBs Tanzania would like to congratulate Peter on his successful business which is reducing waste products in Mwanza and contributing to the recycling of waste products into a usable form.
